  • Max Wizard Programme

The programme is an initiative of British Council and Stanford University is an individualized learning programme to enhance English language skills of learners. Interested students of classes VI to X participate in the same.

  • Teacher Mentor Programme

School initiated a programme to mentor selected weak students of class IX. Eight teachers are made mentors to a group of four to five students each. The aim is to identify reasons for their poor academic performance and address them accordingly. Following strategies have been adopted by mentors;

  • Setting up short term academic performance goals for mentees
  • Teaching memory techniques
  • Giving appreciation cards on achievement of goals
  • Screening of Motivational videos and / or lectures
  • Peer mentoring
  • Involving parents to foster supportive environment

Two sessions on memory tips have been conducted focusing on Rhyme Technique and Personal Memory System (PMS) Technique. Motivational videos were also shown to students to keep them inspired to improve their academic performance.

 MONTESSORI SYSTEM

Montessori System of Education is followed at the Pre-Primary stage. Our school is a pioneer in implementation of this system at the Pre-primary stage. Montessori Method of teaching has evolved as an effective way of ‘Learning by Doing’ using the Montessori Apparatus. It consists of Preliminary Activities, Exercises on Practical Life, Sensorial Activities and Arithmetic Activities. Activity sheets are prepared to reinforce the concept taught with the apparatus. The students are encouraged to use their senses and manipulate material in their environment. This method is practiced with scientific precision and artistic refinement and helps in consolidation of intelligence and will power. Montessori Method of teaching allows the child to develop at his/her own pace.

 CLASS LIBRARIES

The school has a system of class libraries from PI-1 to class VIII. The books are carefully selected according to the level of the students and their varied interests. The list of books is updated regularly. This helps to inculcate reading habits amongst learners.

  • LIBRARIES

The school has 2 libraries – one for the PrimaryDepartment and the Second for ten Senior Department. A Good Reading List has been prepared consisting of about 600 titles of different genres and subjects for recommended reading for students. As per the level, most of these books have been made available in the libraries. E-readers, Kindle,  are also available to encourage reading habits.

The Literary Club also conducts library related activities that motivate children regarding the world of literature.

  • HOLISTIC LEARNING

The school emphasizes upon holistic learning. Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities according to their interest. This is facilitated through morning assembly programmes, competitions, wide choice for Hobby/ SUPW, Work experience and superior sports facilities etc. Guidance and coaching for co-curricular activities is provided. Thus learners get ample opportunities to realize and hone their true potential.

  • ORGANIZING WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS

With an aim to boost our learner’s imagination, create awareness, build positive attitude, nurture creativity, manage emotions, promote life skills, seek inspiration and most importantly, make career choices in consonance with their own aspirations and abilities, a rich variety of workshops are organized annually for students.

  • WORKSHOPS TO CULTIVATE FACULTY
  • Faculty members are sent for in-service training programmes and workshops Some of these are organized in collaboration with CBSE and / or NPSC and are related to the subject /different aspects of learning.
  • The school takes initiative to host/ organize relevant workshops for staff/parents.
    • Workshops and in-service Training programmes are regularly organized at Bal Bharati Teachers’ Training Centre on a wide range of themes that positively impact the teaching learning process.
  • CLASSROOM TEACHING SUPERVISIONS

Supervision of the class room teaching of all staff members is held at least once during each academic year. These are conducted by the respective departmental head alongwith a senior faculty member as the subject expert besides junior faculty members who observe these classes as these offer an opportunity to learn. Highlights of the supervised classroom teaching are duly discussed and recorded.

  • Task Force Meetings

Task Force Meetings involving staff members from the six units of Bal Bharti Public Schools in Delhi and NCR are held to discuss, judge and implement the Best Practices being followed in the different units. This provides a competitive edge as well as offers an opportunity to learn and improve on the basis of the outcome of policies/programmes/projects implemented by different units of BBPS.

The Task Force of Library committee has been undertaking activities through video conferencing among BBPS units. Book reviews and PPTs on Biodiversity were shared.

  • Faculty meetings

Videos are made of selected class room teaching of the senior faculty members of each department. These are shared with other faculty members and specially with the new appointees to help them to hone their teaching skills.

INCULCATING LIFE SKILLS

Realizing the importance of Life Skills in holistic development of learners, the school makes conscious efforts to inculcate the same among students. The school has been incorporating a series of outsourced comprehensive Life skills workshops in the curriculum for students of different classes. The highlights of 2015-16 include:

 Aspire Workshops

Structured Life Skills programme in collaboration with Envision India was initiated for classes IX and X in session 2015-16. Under the programme, a series of six workshops were held for class IX. The topics covered were Gender Sensitization; Positive Thinking and Attitude; Effective Communication Skills; Time Management and Prioritization; Self Discipline and Self Control; and Team Management. The sessions conducted for class X include Managing Emotions and Dealing with Aggression; Effective Study Skills for Better Performance; and Decision Making and Prioritization. These workshops were held in classrooms in an interactive manner using interactive boards. Some parents were also invited to attend the workshops. Feedback received from students, teachers and parents is positive.

Self Defense Programme

To empower girls by developing a sense of strength and confidence in them, the school organised a Self Defense Training Camp for girls of classes VIII to XI, in association with Delhi Police (Central District). The Camp was held for all students from classes I to III, as well.

OTHER PRACTICES TO INCULCATE LIFE SKILLS INCLUDE:-

The school has a wide variety of Clubs from class I onwards to promote experiential learning to students. The Club activities, such as those of Literary Club, Dramatics Club etc. promote creativity and imagination of students; Heritage club aims to perpetuate the rich cultural legacy and heritage of the country; while science based clubs as TodFodJod Club, Astronomy Club and Robotics Club etc. develop scientific temperament and analytical skills of learners. The Environment Club and Interact Club help to develop empathy and promote socially responsible attitudes among learners.

The Prefectorial system of the school is an effective way to train students to shoulder responsibilities and develop Leadership skills. In each department of the school there is an able team of prefects and a group of office bearers led by the Head boy and Head girl. In addition there is a team of monitors for each class. This platform enables students to take initiative, develop leadership qualities and skills like decision making, problem solving, empathy etc. They also learn to assist and organize various school functions and community service programmes besides carrying out day to day activities like monitoring dispersal of students at departure time, checking the late comers and organizing school campaigns such as anti-cracker campaign etc

The wide variety of school functions, Morning Assembly programmes, Inter house activitiesand Inter school events provide a suitable platform to develop communications skills, time management and multi-tasking abilities of the learners. Also, the theme based programmes help to sensitize students to various contemporary social issues.

Group and individual counseling sessions are undertaken by the school counselor and special educators to help students cope with emotional stress. Under ‘Peer Moderator Programme’ of CBSE, selected students have been trained to give presentations to students of different classes regarding Anger Management through role play, workshops etc. Workshops on Anger Management, Stress Management, Time Management, etc are regularly conducted.

Students from class III onwards are regularly sent to BBPS Activity Centre, Solan for a four day trip in groups of about 40 each. Training in adventure activities like rock climbing, wall climbing, river crossing, etc is provided. Living in dormitories with peers helps in inculcating the sense of community living. Students of class I to III are sent for day trips to BBPS Activity Centre, Rohini where they are exposed to age specific adventure activities.

Outstation trips within India and abroad are also organized regularly by the school. Trip to Denmark was organized in the summer vacations in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, as a part of Exchange programmes, selected students went to Germany and Poland each.
